Heard some tones that sounded like music just above 6930 and a weak carrier around 2300z, lost the signal before I could tune it in and ID anything.

They have a name for that; it's called ACSSB see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amplitude-companded_single-sideband_modulation

Without getting too technical, let it suffice to say 'it' works best when using a receiver capable of AMS or AM/Synchronous detection (carrier restoration at the/on the 'receive end') especially if the transmitting signal 'wanders' around quite a bit (so I have found out determined these last few weeks!!! ALL IN GOOD FUN OHR!!) ...

Google enlightenment on same: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=opera&hs=oBa&rls=en&q=amplitude+companded+ssb+ACSSB&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

NO DOUBT IT IS FUN     Strange thing tho  the transmitter was running in AM MODE 10 watts carrier not SSB     I guess for AM MODE a guy is susposed to run a transmitter that doesn't have much modulation swing         Man you wouldn't like my old  transmitter  it's a SWINGER   LOL     nice links by the way
