M89, VC01 & V26 for June logs...
« on: June 30, 2017, 0851 UTC »
Very erratic propagation has not helped during June, especially on the very low bands.  Interesting to note that 8.060MHz M89 always very strong here compared to others, maybe location or power output?

Also I observed a Round Slip change on 4.066MHz M89 which usually runs 6TFU GR4W but on 22nd June it was sending ED3C de VF4R.

As with most of the M89 transmissions, when not sending Round Slips I often hear Chinese chatter on the frequency.

Some Indonesian "copy cats" heard most nights this way between 0900-1000z either on 6.995 or 6.990MHz Lower with chat and "chanting" in same fashion as Chinese Robot VC01.  Monday night "Australia, Indonesia and Mister Robert" mentioned. Jamming signal appeared on 6.995MHz Thursday night (plus 10dB over here) so they moved down 5KHz to 6.990MHz LSB. Also prior to one chant commencing "Kilo Papa Lima" was mentioned.  Maybe Indonesian Military or Village Radio pirates playing about?  Will keep observing this one.

2045z  5.037MHz  USB  VC01 Chinese Robot with two females chanting over and over. 5X6 report.
0956z  7.474MHz  USB  VC01 Chinese Robot with two females chanting over and over. 5X5 report.
1002z  7.684MHz  LSB  VC01 Chinese Robot with two females chanting over and over. 5X5 peaking 5X8 report.

0900z  6.995MHz  LSB  ?? Two Indonesian men chanting "Lima Dua" and "Jandi Gandi" over and over also "Kilo Papa Lima" announced, copy of VC01? Or Village Idiots. 5X6 report.
0925z  6.990MHz  LSB  ?? Two Indonesian men chanting "Nessay Dua" and "Jodpuree" same people as on 6.995MHz the night before. 5X3 to 5X8 report. 6.995MHz 10dB over jammer running there.

0944z  9.054MHz  USB  V26 Chinese Military with lady giving out numbers. 5X5 report.

1543z  3.642MHz  CW  "v DKG6 DKG6 DKG6 de 3A7D 3A7D" M89 Chinese Military 319 report.
1545z  3.777MHz  CW  "v M8JF M8JF M8JF de RIS9 RIS9" M89 Chinese Military. Same Round Slip fpr many months, 559 report.
1547z  4.066MHz  CW  "v 6TFU 6TFU 6TFU de GR4W GR4W" M89 Chinese Military. 539 report (24th June)
2020z  4.066MHz  CW  "v ED3C ED3C ED3C de VF4R VF4R" M89 Chinese Military. 319 report, new Round Slip (22nd June)
1550z  4.532MHz  CW  "v M8JF M8JF M8JF de RIS9 RIS9" M89 Chinese Military 559 report. Same Round Slip for many months.
1553z  4.847MHz  CW  "v 6TFU 6TFU 6TFU de GR4W GR4W" M89 Chinese Military 529 report.
1120z  6.793MHz  CW  "v M8JF M8JF M8JF de RIS9 RIS9" M89 Chinese Military 419 report.
1548z  7.602MHz  CW  "v DKG6 DKG6 DKG6 de 3A7D 3A7D" M89 Chinese Military 539 report.
1009z  8.060MHz  CW  "v M8JF M8JF M8JF de RIS9 RIS9" M89 Chinese Military 589 report.
1025z  8.290MHz  CW  "vvv Q2M Q2M Q2M de NYZ NYZ" M89 Chinese Military 529 report. Seldom heard.
1115z 10.178MHz  CW  "v FIK3 FIK3 FIK3 de H4JH H4JH" M89 Chinese Military 569 report.
1118z 10.180MHz  CW  "v DKG6 DKG6 DKG6 de 3A7D 3A7D" M89 Chinese Military 319 report.
1129z 10.253MHz  CW  "v 6TGU 6TGU 6TGU de GR4W GR4W" M89 Chinese Military 419 report. (Round Slip varies 6TGU or 6TFU as in case of 4.847MHz logging)

Re: VC01.  LG, the freqs you list are 3 of the 4 used last month.  This station typically has 4 freqs it uses each month, it is most often on two of them at any given time, and changes pairs in a diurnal cycle.  All 4 frequencies for last month were 4770 kHz LSB, 5037 kHz USB, 7474 kHz USB, and 7684 kHz LSB.  It typically changes frequency sets around the 10th of each month.

So far for this month I have seen only 2 of the 4 freqs, 4588 kHz USB and 7118 kHz USB.  This weekend I will have to look for the other two.

Re: Chanters.  The Indonesian Chanters have been active a long time.  I have them in my logs going back more than 10 years.  Other freqs I have run into them are 7000 kHz LSB (and several channels / freqs below that) and 11425 kHz USB.  I seem to remember a 14 MHz freq also, but I can't find it in my logs.

Sometimes you can hear them cutting up and laughing.  I don't know what they are doing there, but they seem to enjoy it.

Re: V26.  Typically V26 is active on 3 frequencies at one time.  If you hear 9054 kHz active again you might check 4243 kHz, 4283 kHz, 7553 kHz, 7345 kHz (USB, and likely under the BC station there), 9153 kHz, and 8073 kHz.

V26 has a Morse code sister station, M95, that either follows or precedes it on a frequency.  There is also a digital mode "Chinese 4+4 modem", also on freq before or after V26/M95, that is part of this family.  I have seen the same traffic sent on all three, one after the other.

Thanks Token for the extra information, have modified the frequency lists upon receipt of latest Engima-2000 monthly newsletter.  Will cross check with what you have provided.

Sometimes the propagation is so poor a 2MHz change in frequency can be the difference of logging VC01, especially if the first logged higher band signal is poor.

Strange thing I find with the M89 stations is many of the frequencies that are "regulars" into Europe are not heard at all here.

8.060MHz is always strong here, up to 599 plus 10dB at times, whether it runs high power or it's at a more southern location in China?  When it turns off I always hear Chinese chatter there too, as too most of the other M89's that are not transmitter the CW Round Slips.

Re V26, had the lady giving out numbers last night 9.054MHz USB at 0945z but couldn't hear anything on the other frequencies, band was in poor shape as HM-01 in Cuba only a six rather than the usual plus 10 to 20dB over.

On 8.152MHz USB at 0755z I logged a Chinese man giving out numbers in either Cantonese or Mandarin, slowly and methodically, another man replies and repeats back.  Heard this one on two or three occasions now on same frequency.  The fellow that replies is always at least three to four 's' points weaker but always audible.  The session lasts between 10 and 15 minutes.

The Indonesian chanters seem to have the biggest following on 7.000MHz LSB, with two "Team Leaders" with big signals and great audio running the show.  Maybe a cultural thing or just having fun?

Thanks again for the additional news, always welcome this way... ;)

This is possibly VC03.  VC03 is obviously live, and often has different operators.  VC03 does not have any regular freqs / schedules that I know of, almost all of my receptions of these signals tend to be random and on different freqs.  I have heard multiple networks of these signals up at one time, and occasionally they seem to be duplex, while one freq is active another is quiet, and vice versa.

Big Indonesian Chanting sessions usually conducted exactly on 7.000MHz Lower side band, heard here between 0900-1100z some of them up to 20dB over.   :D
