Long past time to have eLORAN operational.

One obstacle to action is simply ignorance. “This is a hidden utility, because nothing really bad has happened. People either don’t know, or know about it and haven’t taken any action,” Goward says

Say that to the fishermen after LORAN-C was turned off.

The other obstacle is that the companies that depend most on this technology are reluctant to advertise their Achilles’ heel by lobbying for a more resilient system. Goward, whose job is drumming up industry support for these changes, says “the response almost universally has been, we’re not really interested in disclosing vulnerabilities of our products and services.”

Its hardly a secret.

Lol yeah don't bother with reducing the risks just obfuscate them and hope no one ever exploits them.

I may be old school, but I would never try to navigate on sea or in air without at least a rudimentary knowledge of dead reckoning, use of a sextant, and the other old school navigational aids. It just seems practical. I love most new technology, but some of it is just too sketchy in the long term to trust your life on it without a backup.
An AM radio Boombox DXer.
+ GE SRIII, PR-D5 & TRF on MW.
The usual Realistic culprits on SW (and a Panasonic).

I totally agree, BoomBox.

And stop turning off the NDBs. Simple and great for backup. Plus, with the ADF the pilot can tune to the MW band to listen to something during flight.

Just as long as that idiot in North Korea doesn't devise something to knock out the satellites and thus create world wide disruption.

BoomboxDX is most correct in placing value with the good old fashioned navigation techniques, back to the sextant and basic charts with dividers and parallel ruler resting faithfully on top.

Marine NDB's long since consigned to history in Australia, only the aviation NDB's left and in reduced numbers.
