Relay Station pirate radio station
5010 kHz 5.010 MHz 5.01 MHz
60 meter broadcast band
AM mode
local SIO 413 - strong S5-S7 signal and nice audio, but wideband QRM (possibly over the horizon radar) making reception very difficult....this QRM sounds like a lawn mower engine or a scooter without a muffler its really annoying
remote receiver SIO 444, nearly perfect at points with some QSB
thanks for the show!
2120 UTC - tuned in to hear OM talking with some wideband pulse-type QRM that's about 60-70 kHz wide
2122 UTC - OM talking about how he doesn't really have a fashion icon, good audio and signal.
2123 UTC - this QRM is infuriating, as it is strongest right around 5015 kHz and at times overwhelming Relay Station's audio
2124 UTC - I checked WWV on 5000 kHz and the legal SW broadcaster on 5025 kHz and they're both suffering from the same QRM
2125 UTC - tuned back to Relay Station on 5010 AM to hear music again!
2127 UTC - signal jumped up to S7, some fading up and down noted
2138 UTC - switched to a VA remote receiver (no QRM there!) to hear "Wheel In The Sky" by Journey
2139 UTC - signal peaked at S9 for a few moments, then dropped back down to S5-S7
2141 UTC - "Crazy on You"
2142 UTC - switched to another remote SDR, much better signal...armchair copy on NY remote receiver
2143 UTC - fading/QSB - peaks at S9 to S9+10db, dipped down to S5, then back up to S7-S9 range, nice wide audio
2144 UTC - still bouncing around signal strength wise - by comparison, WWV is S3-S4 and very noisy
2146 UTC - Jimmy Eat World - The Middle
2147 UTC - selective fading is becoming more rapid - visible on the sidebands on the waterfall display of the KiwiSDR
2201 UTC - S7 signal, selective fading has become less of an issue but can still be seen on the waterfall
2203 UTC - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speech with music in the background
