Olympics coverage on Shortwave?
« on: February 13, 2018, 2327 UTC »
Haven't had much time for listening lately, but has anyone heard any coverage of the Olympics 2018? Surprised there are no posts.

I'm thinking a lot of the stations that might have reported live, or given extensive coverage, are no longer on the air in English - Radio Canada, DW, Russia, the Nordic Countries, and Central European countries.  Cuba has little interest in the Winter Olympic.

I think the other problem is the time difference.  I could have seen the BBC covering some events on Sportsworld on the weekend but two problems: 1) By the time Sportsworld starts, it is is midnight in South Korea.  2) This weekend is competition for English's most prestigious soccer tournament, they will be booming coverage of the FA Cup.

I'm sure VOA and RCI must be reporting at least scores/medals.

Tecsun H501x (broadcast received on this unless noted), Zenith T/O G500, Zenith T/O Royal 7000, Emerson AR-176, Zenith 8S154, T/O 7G605 (Bomber), Tecsun PL-600, Tecsun PL-880, Zenith 5S320, Realistic DX 160 using 40 feet of copper wire.  With apologies to Senator Gramm for his thoughts on firearms, "I have more radios than I need but not as many as I want."

Nothing heard on SW in Australia so far on the Winter Olympics, however, television network Channel-7 in Australia has extensive live coverage.

Not many people in Australia interested in it either, asked some of my work associates yesterday if they were watching, 90% said "No".

Was tuned to BBC World this morning and it wasn't even mentioned in the hourly news.  Maybe the South Koreans are broadcasting it on SW but in the Korean language? ;D

Yaesu FT-1000D, Yaesu FT-2000D, ICOM IC-736 HF/50MHz, ICOM IC R75 & Tecsun S-2000 to 450 feet of wire, 27MHz 1/2 wave CB antenna converted to 21MHz & a multi band vertical of dubious reliability.
