SDR recording catch. I recorded 1620-1720 kHz last night to see what would turn up. 

I ran the I/Q files through Carrier Sleuth ( https://www.blackcatsystems.com/software/medium_wave_carrier_display_app.html ) and noticed this carrier appear at 0125 UTC. You can see it drifted up in frequency after it signed on, probably thermal drift in the oscillator. Then it went QRT around 0215, came back on 0240, off 0252.



So I then listened to the recordings and sure enough found a pirate, probably someone testing:

0125 Music heard mixing in with the Flight 93 TIS station.
0128 Sounded like dance music, Shazam claims "Bizarre Love Triangle Extended Dance Mix"
0151 "Died In Your Arms Tonight"
0204 "Call Me"
0211 "Tonight Is The Night"
0212 "Sweet Dreams"
...
0241 Back with dance music
0245 "Mr. Vain"
0251 "Automatic Lover"

As you already know. This is just for others. The best way to keep SDR’ S on frequency is to use a GPS clock frequency source (as done on kiwi’s) if they have a external clock input or a calibrated TCXO OCXO for example. The better SDR’s do. I am amazed by some of the SSB (not AM) recordings I receive off frequency that the listeners think sound good.

Huh... I was wondering if we were going to start hearing pirates again on 1710kHz and 1720kHz. And, looks like the answer is, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssss.

This person was on tonight 10-24-2020 . I noticed his frequency was right on the money and zero drift as opposed to last night when he was testing. 20 to 25 over here in Bronx N.Y. with excellent audio. Thank you for the music if you're out there.
