I temp of 114.....that's a lot !

Nothing electronic likes that kind of heat....especially things like electrolytic caps .  It must see direct sun at times.

Based on DW's telemetry data and assuming the temps are Outside and Inside, the data shows a delta of 5-8 degrees typical. Therefore I don't think there is much in the way of direct sunlight impinging on DW's box. I believe the delta to be the product of internal heating due to power consumption. Conventional electronic components are designed to operate with upper limits generally set at 158 F for commercial applications. Good electrolytic caps are typically rated at 25,000 hours service life at 70C/158F. Chinese quality can be a crapshoot but I have to say I have had some Baofeng UV5R's in 24/7 use for three years without failure.

The (assumed location) desert beacons that send telemetry are reporting some big hot numbers

4095.650  KHz  DW/Desert Whooper. Good signal on KFS, BAt 13.6  OTMP 116  I TMP 120  PV 753

DW is silent this morning. I last listened around 10 PM PST last night and DW was there with the other 4 MHz beacons. Battery was normal at 13.1 and temps were in the 90's as I recall. No signal at all this morning although Windy and "Beacon L" have decent signals here at home. Hopefully DW will be back soon.

Have been listening on and off and have not heard it a-whooping away either.

Any updates from anyone?

Yesterday on the KFS SE kiwi I could swear I heard it. It was not as strong as usual but the reported temps were quite low for the desert, maybe in the 70’s. Made me think it’s somewhere indoors being repaired and tested.

Got it just now on the SE kiwi at KFS.  Vy weak but steady but weak.

The slow dasher is in there above it too.

The new dasher at 4096.34 disappeared and immediately the desert whooper comes up at 4095.7 (KFS SE kiwi)

Must be repair and testing going on?

Still whooping away but strangely there is no CW ID or telemetry interrupting the whoops

No joy this morning, although Windy is Q5 this morning (and only a balmy 92)

At 2345Z I'm hearing DW on the KFS SE SDR. Weaker than usual, about S1.

Good catch!

I’ve been hearing it too and right now it has a good signal on the SE kiwi although at times it is better on the omni.

Edit

It seems as if it has been repaired and is being tested as the PV is always zero, BAT is constant and TMP values vary only a few degrees
