SSTV during broadcast
« on: March 10, 2021, 0125 UTC »
Hi All,
Long time listener but semi-newbie to sdr. (SDR counsel w/ airspy hf+)
How are you decoding the SSTV E-qsl's. I imagine you need to be recording and then decode after.
What is a simple to operate sstv rx app to use. Using win 10.
Tx all, 73

MMSSTV from hamsoft comes highly recommended https://hamsoft.ca/ and it is free. I am still experimenting with that one. For now, I am using MULTIPSK, only because it also does additional modes and the decoders are good, shame about the interface.

No need to record. You can decode live. You will find that the best setup is achieved by using VB-Cable from VB-Audio https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm or some other type of "virtual audio cable". There are a few options available.

OK, I'm familiar with VB Cable, and will give the MMSSTV a try, Tx for the input

There's also my Black Cat SSTV: https://www.blackcatsystems.com/software/sstv.html

N1DAY compared it against MMSSTV, and Black Cat SSTV was the winner  :) https://hamsignal.com/blog/building-options-to-improve-your-sstv-experience

Initially I wrote Black Cat SSTV specifically to decode transmissions from weak signals such as pirates. As N1DAY noted in his review: " In a number of cases, I was also receiving images out of Europe on the Black Cat that were not even triggering the lowest squelch settings on MMSSTV. "

It's free to download and test out, so please give it a try.

Sorry Chris, I totally forgot about you. I am so used to you being the defacto Apple/Mac software source that I keep forgetting that you now port most of your applications out to Windows as well.

I will give Black Cat SSTV a try. If it is anything like HF Fax I expect it will work well.
