Monitor interference over my SDR RX.
« on: April 27, 2021, 2029 UTC »
When I run my RTL_SDR off sdr console V3, I operate my laptop from a secondary monitor via a HDMI cable. My loop antenna sits on my desk right next too my monitor; I'm getting terrible interference from my monitors signal, over the SDR I'm running. Do know how I go about eliminating this interference, generating from the monitor ?

The antenna and the display will never be able to reside in that close of proximity to one another without some kind of interference. There are many factors in modern displays which cause interference. The shear nature of them being digital is one of them and their use of switching power supplies is a second. To start with, you might want to ensure that you use a good quality HDMI cable, one that has ferrites at both end then add ferrites to the display’s power cord. Your best choice is to either relocate the antenna or relocate the display.

Agreeing, more distance between the loop and the monitor.

But try a simple trick for a SW loop : place the loop horizontally. (That is not a good idea for a MW loop). Just do a simple test with the loop held in hand. If this is good, then find a way about a new  or modified mount for your loop. The best is to be able to tilt the loop to any angle. I have done that by using an horizontal PVC pipe held by plastic clips for such pipes.  All held together by wooden crossbar and vertical rod.

You can try also to make some turns in the cable!

I pushed my loop on a stick antenna, over to the edge of my desk & it made a difference just from that little bit of distance away from the monitor.
