1710 KHz "W807" 0229 UTC 10/6/2012 - Pirate or Part 15?
« on: October 06, 2012, 0233 UTC »
Unid on 1710 KHz AM right now with deep fades with interference from co-channel Radio Celestial and the New Jersey TIS station.  I haven't caught any voice announcements or IDs yet.  Signal generally poor.

0223z: James Brown tune
0230z: Jefferson Starship  "Miracles"
0235z: Led Zeppelin tune
0246z: Collective Soul "The World I Know"
0256z: Nice fade-up to S7 with Evanescence "Wake me up Inside"
0302z: Aerosmith "Living on the Edge"
0320z: Good fade-up and ID heard that sounded like "WAO7" or "W8O7" and into ad for The Shop Tattoo Studio in Chicago.  Hmmmm...

Shortly after the ID at 0320z, this has now gone into an old-time radio program.  My first thoughts were the Antioch Part 15 station that runs old-time radio shows but it doesn't match their live web stream.

Will post some audio clips later.

"W807" is listed here on the pirate/part 15 list:

When the NJ TIS isn't causing me interference, I hear it fairly well. Playing Led Zeppelin now All of my Love

Had a chance to listen to this a couple of times, earlier this afternoon around 2100.  It was in fair with low modulation, but was playing classic rock such as Eagles and F Mac.  And just now around 2345 with an improving signal, similar programming.

In neither session did the audio in any way resemble that of the Antioch Part 15 stream.

I agree with kilokat7's recorded ID as W807.  That is listed as being (at one time) near Glasford, IL which is down by Peoria.

In this second session I heard the tat parlor commx, and also another.  Both business had locations listed near Archer and Paulina or Wood, which would put them on the near Southwest Side of Chicago, possibly 20 miles from me.  I wonder why these fine establishments would have promos on a station near Peoria?

I'm wondering if the actual location is no longer Peoria?

I'm hearing this one again right now beginning around 0002 UTC with AC/DC, similar musical format as last night.  Definitely a new player on this frequency.

YT video from last night's reception:

Going by comments found in the old FRN forum. I'd say he's a new player, but an old one with a new location. Just starting to pick out bits and pieces right now.

Been seeing this, more or less, anytime I looked there.  Doesn't mean that it's 24/7.  Here's a snap from around 2200z:

Whether due to reduced power level or increased absorption, it seems a tad weaker the last 2 days.

Midday check at 1740 here has this in at good level, commercials as noted previously, and then into music - funked up dance mix of "Night On Bald Mountain".
