Recently, a co-worker quizzed me on, "What would happen if you were to apply reverse polarity to the Energizer Bunny?". Having no idea, I asked, "What would happen?". The answer is he'd keep coming and coming and coming...

I had dozens of those things over the years. Wrap the cord handle around the handle bars of my bike and away I'd go.  Most of them ran off a 9 volt battery, just like your walkie-talkie.

I have a small collection, a few of them actually work.  They can be difficult and frustrating to repair and really weren't made with service in mind.
You can still find these in the wild, although in my experience less than 50-50 it will play right away or ever and might work but has cosmetic issues as many were subjected to harsh treatment 8)
None of them do dx. You see those pictures of the teens holding it to their ear? They're trying to hear a station.
