Mix Radio International 6980 DSB 0255 UTC 26 JUN 2022
« on: June 26, 2022, 0256 UTC »
UNID 6980.0 kHz DSB 02:55 UTC 26 JUNE 2022

02:55 UTC - UNID with music. Something is wrong with the AM modulation. Listen in DSB with 8 kHz bandwidth or alternatively either in LSB or USB;
03:23 UTC - Going into a deep fade out. The signal is now just above the noise floor;
03:32 UTC - Station ID: Mix Radio International (MRI)
03:36 UTC - The signal is now all but pretty much gone to my location but still sounds great over the HFU KiwiSDR.

Note: If you are listening on a KiwiSDR in USB, set the filter to 5 kHz wide (I.E. drag the left side of the filter to zero and the right side to 5 kHz). This will produce some nice base in the audio.

Yeah, kind of looks like suppressed carrier double sideband.

0304 Confirmed, USB and LSB sound identical but there is no carrier.  DSBSC.  Some fading and noisy but listenable in Central Vermont.  Very little frequency error if any at all.

Yes , something definitely wrong, maybe DSB , no carrier or weak , needs to be USB or LSB

It's making a barber-pole pattern on the waterfall.  Is there something wrong with the modulation, or is it on top of some digital ute?  I've seen a pattern like that before.

S9 with the W3HFU KiwiSDR. Signal suddenly up to S9+10 at 0325 UTC. Huge drop in signal strength at 0343 UTC down to S5. Back up to S9+10 at 0400 UTC. DSB mode, very unusual.

Songs are identified with Shazam if needed. I usually use KiwiSDR receivers. Reception from my QTH is using an SDRPlay RSP1A for SWL with a 40 meter band Inverted V at 40 feet. Kenwood TS-570D for ham use.

Making it into the Thumb of Michigan well tonight too with that ‘unusual’ choice of carrierless DSB modulation.

Sounds ok but still ‘odd’.

DXing *either* from:
MI -- South Central Lower Michigan with a 25 m randomwire and a LOT of local noise!
or
MI2 -- the tip of Michigan's Thumb with a 100 metre longwire and much quieter conditions.  Radios can be either an SPR-4 or IC-R71A or SDRplay

QSLs appreciated! radioguy73@gmail.com
