7415 KHz was, for many years, the most popular frequency for shortwave pirates. Usage dates to at least the early 1980s. In the early 1990s, increasing interference from adjacent legal shortwave broadcasters sent pirates in search of clearer air. Towards the end of the 1990s, WBCQ was awarded a license by the FCC to use this frequency. The FCC required WBCQ to stop using 7415 on October 24, 2011, and WBCQ moved their 41-meter broadcasts to 7490 KHz.
