I did not hear any myself, but there were SKYMASTER-format messages today.
Mercury E6B AE0412, which was in Europe, was broadcasting as POSTULATE. Messages were repeats of EAMs (or FDMs) broadcast by ground station. POSTULATE also confirmed receipt of SKYMASTER-format messages from MALT 11. Reports from listeners on the UTwente WebSDR (Netherlands) – I was listening with KiwiSDR in Kansas and, as one could probably expect in the case of messages being broadcast an ocean away, did not hear anything from POSTULATE or MALT 11. (Though the ID/location of MALT 11 is non-obvious to me.)
SKYMASTER events are poorly documented online but do seem to be fairly predictable. For the event a few weeks ago;
- Jan 15 2020 was the third Wednesday of 2020
- 2021, 2022 dates I have not found mention of online
- Jan 11 2023 was the second Wednesday of 2023
- For 2024 you could've expected a SKYMASTER event on either the second or third Wednesday of this year, and you'd be about right the second time – the Jan 11 2024 messages came, going by US timezones, on the third Wednesday of this year.
Some reference dates for today;
- Feb 10 2021 was the sixth Wednesday of 2022
- Feb 01 2023 was the fifth Wednesday of 2023
- And so for 2024 you'd again be in a position of an either/or – either the fifth Wednesday of the year (Jan 31) or the sixth (Feb 07), and you'd be right the second time.
Hopefully someone will report in the thread if they did hear messages today and can share times, etc. but even failing that I wanted to share this information. I have done various web searches, checked random Discord servers, trawled even through Russian language SWL forums, etc. to find some dates. I am not definite on when the next SKYMASTER event could be expected – a quick re-check of some posts suggests some kind of 'follow up' could happen within the next few days or possibly this weekend, but I am not sure. From my own notes I heard SKYMASTER messages on a weekend in April of 2023.
