Police Radio, or however they spelled it, from Turkey, was one of the best SW stations on the air. Of course, they went dark in the early part of the century, but while they were on the music was great.

Thanks! Heard it again a few nights later. Unfortunately last night it was a little choppy for me.

Good again tonight with minimal fading, around 0505 UTC. Music and the occasional announcements.

Also, props to Shazam for being able to pull out a song title from 5500 miles away and in AM. Currently enjoying Sevil Özen's Yana Yana!

"Miserlou" the song Dick Dale made a hit, was originally recorded in Athens in the mid-1920's by a bunch of Greek refugees expelled from Turkey when the Turks went to war against the Christian population in the crumbling Ottoman Empire. They still fight over whether it's a Muslim song or a Christian one online.

Dick's Uncle was a Lebanese Christian oud player in an Arab orchestra in Los Angeles which is where the originator of Surf Music and shredding the guitar learned the tune. An Arab kid invented something as all-American as surf music, go figure? Take that Brian Wilson!
