George Zimmerman Not Guilty

02:31 utc  09:55pm EST    For those who have been keeping track of the case... George Zimmerman was found not guilty of 2nd Degree Murder and Manslaughter about 40 minutes ago.

I didn't think they would get him on 2nd Degree Murder, there was no way to know what actually happened once the fight began. However, I thought Manslaughter was a slam dunk due to Zimmerman initiating the chain of events that night.

Zimmerman's case was reliant upon the Stand Your Ground thing.

Now, forgive me if I am wrong, but I don't think that applies when you shoot an unarmed teen who was walking away from you and whom you drove after in your car. Why didn't the cops pick up on this fact?

What I want to know is why did it take the police 6 WEEKS to arrest him? Here in the UK, even if it was in self-defence, the standard is normally detained at the local nick and questioned by someone of no less then Dec Sgt.

Regardless of the trial outcome, I am sure that he will be hounded out of town

The extreme irony here is that Zimmerman's family now says that they fear vigilantes will come for Zimmerman. Just blows my mind at how senseless this all was.

The way I understand it is that after several days of investigation the cops decided it was a righteous shoot.  Charges were only filed after pressure was brought to bear from higher up the food chain, namely federal and state meddling.  I guess the jury came to the same conclusion as the local cops.
