FRG-7 power switch
« on: October 27, 2023, 1205 UTC »
I'm currently refurbishing an elderly but classic Yaesu FRG-7 receiver, does anyone know where I could get a power switch or just the red plastic toggle?  The switch appears to be fine but the plastic toggle is broken.  Maybe you know someone with a scrap chassis?

I believe the switch body and coloured plastic toggle were originally available separately and were used extensively on several Yaesu boxes of this period.

It's a Fujisoku 8H2011 which, according to some sources, suggest that even after some 40+ years they may still be available, however I’ve not turned up anything in the UK via RS, Farnell/CPC or Rapid.

I've seen Frog 7s parted out on eBay from time to time. You might want to keep an eye out there.

I ventured down the rabbit hole, as I have a nice Sears FRG-7. Hopefully it stays nice, but things happen, so....

The switch is available. Nidec makes it. Possibly Honeywell as well, assuming it is not just a reband.

The lever cap is another issue, especially in red. Nidec lists black and white, but I could not find any currently for sale.

Replacing with a similar size NKK M2 switch and lever cap *might* work. YMMV and probably not worth the hassle.

With as many FRG-7s still out there, particularly the ones being repaired and restored, I figured at least someone else has already been down the rabbit hole as well. Sure enough. :)

There ya' go for 3D printed lever cap replacements. If you do not have access to a 3D printer, he offers them for sale.
