I can almost gaurentee thats not Sound of hop.. China jams them relentlessly.. im not sure anyone in the US, SDr or otherwise, has ever heard them.. and what i never see is anyone verifying it against an SOH strea,m, which im pretty sure they have.

If it sounds like a news format, then its CNR/CRI(CGTN)

This myth is really annoying. Many, many SOH frequencies are not jammed and I hear them regularly here. If it’s on an offset frequency, it’s SOH. Their programming is also easily distinguished from CRI. Trust me, try tuning in on 6900 or 6970 and you will hear them.

Songs are identified with Shazam if needed. I usually use KiwiSDR receivers. Reception from my QTH is using an SDRPlay RSP1A for SWL with a 40 meter band Inverted V at 40 feet. Kenwood TS-570D for ham use.

It's not much of a myth. Most of what Paul says is verifiably true. That said, this particular report could be a genuine copy given the QTH of both receivers. But the details are lacking. Ron from California copies it regularly but he also provided details that allow us to know that he really copied SOH, such as station ID (which he knows in Mandarin) and the lack of TOTH time pips, which CNR1 (not CRI - they use CNR1 to jam) always has. This one merits additional questioning.

BTW, if there's anything to be annoyed with, it's the posting of clandestine stations like SOH under the regular shortwave broadcast station board. It happens a lot.

I've never bothered with asian languages.. when i run across them here, its going to N or S Korea. China or Japan 90 plus percent of the time, and hardly DX here.

Whats frustrating is people assuming its SOH just because thats whats listed..... and not verifying anything and not posting many program details
