Late posting Beacon or ?? "P"

8-1-09   0020UTC   4031.93   CW 400 Hz   S-3 to S-9 tape recorder quality at times   
Sending “P” over and over then five (5) character groups starting at about 0030.
Checked again at 0100 sending strings of “P”.

The character groups are letters and numbers reminding me of crypto signal of some sort.
Why ID as "P" ??? Anyone care to shed some light??
