SSTV freqs?
« on: November 30, 2013, 1620 UTC »
Other than 14230 and 27700, are there any other bands that still have analog SSTV on a regular basis?  I've checked the calling frequencies that are listed in the file that you can find all over the place by googling "sstv nets", but I rarely if ever hear anything, other than digital on 7173 and I'm not really interested in digital.

I usually hear a few on 28680 khz, and occasionally on 21340khz.
Also 14227 was busier than 14230 this morning.

Here is one from this morning on 28680....

Thanks, I've been neglecting the high bands because the sunspot number has been so low.  The only reason I've been checking 27700 lately is because I keep seeing it mentioned here.

Anything on the low bands that are workable every day, 40m/80m/160m?

Refmo,

Yep, you pretty well covered it. I've checked 10 and 15m often, and never really saw anything, so I just moved along. Nice to see you caught a good scan on 10m!  I'll bet you heard SSTV on 14227 only because the SSTVer's were probably trying to avoid QRM from the voice ops not paying attention to the "gentleman's agreement".

Jim... I've never seen anything on 40/80/160 so I just gave up. That doesn't mean that occasionally you won't. For me, I don't wish to exert maximum effort for minimal results, so I look elsewhere.

Pope Jim,

I noticed you made mention of Digital SSTV, and that you didn't really care for digital. I just wanted to mention my experience with it.

I downloaded the easypal software and expected to see images on 14.233khz. I spent hours on that freq and tried in vain to get anything out of it. I read all the "helps", all the troubleshooting posts I could... still failure to get one picture. All the "bars" lit up... I had some pretty good signal strengths on the incoming signals... tried tweaking everything... still not one picture. I had every frame come up with the callsign of the transmitting station but the frames were always black blanks. Really frustrating!

I don't give up easily, but I finally walked away from it. BTW, you can view just about any pic sent anyway without the software because there is a site set up that posts all recent pics and is constantly updated, so it became a moot point to even bother to get the software going.

Ditto, I occasionally copy SSTV here in Texas on 3845 LSB.  Haven't tried in awhile though.  14230 still seems the most active.

I've copied some on 21340, mostly from Europe using Martin 1.
