https://radiojayallen.com/qodosen-dx-286-a-great-radio-becomes-even-better/    So, for around a C-Note, car stereo performance in a shirt pocket portable? Heck, yeah!!!! Question is, is this portable readily available now?
“I am often asked how radio works. Well, you see, wire telegraphy
is like a very long cat. You yank his tail in New York and he
meows in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? Now, radio is
exactly the same, except that there is no cat.”

The Qodosen DX-286 has been available for over a year or more. SWL's and other DXers have been talking about it on other forums for some time now. Terrific performance. The only thing it lacks is SSB, but considering that it's apparently so good on all other bands (not sure about LW, though, haven't heard anyone talk about that) it's well worth the money.

MW will DX off the whip (omnidirectional, of course), or via internal loopstick, which can be aided by an external loop.

The info on Qodosen at the bottom of Jay Allen's article is really cool. The guy who founded Qodosen apparently did radio design for other Chinese based radio companies like Tecsun and Redsun, and even helped design the XHDATA D808, which I have (another good radio).

As for the DX-286, I don't recall reading any bad reviews of the radio. Most of the users are amazed at its performance.
An AM radio Boombox DXer.
+ GE SRIII, PR-D5 & TRF on MW.
The usual Realistic culprits on SW (and a Panasonic).
