RNE Spain leaving MW
« on: December 14, 2025, 2010 UTC »
Leaving AM at the end of the month, which I didn't know about at all.  No small thing, as they have a lot of stations. It will leave the already depopulated parts of rural Spain entirely without RNE coverage since FM doesn't get there. Still plenty of private Spanish stations on MW so this may be more about RNE losing relevance (and financing) than MW.

Big into SWDX late 70s through early 90s, then forgot about it and when I returned via SDRs it wasn't at all what I remembered, but I'll deal with it. Grumble, grumble. All SDRs acknowledged, nothing is from my own radio.

Hey 'AVH,

Back in the day when I did transatlantic AM BCB Dx, Spain was one of the countries that was "easier".

It seems that Europe can't stop using ANYTHING   that AM modulates quick enough  (LW, MW or SW) .

Paul Simon : "Slip Slidin' Away ".

But it was a GOOD run and I logged a LOT of stuff on A ncient M ary   in the USA from Europe (and  also when I LIVED there ).

I just tuned into a RNE frequency (1152, not sure which of several stations it was) via a Spanish SDR just to say I heard it before it went silent. They were talking about dog care, not really a subject to hold my interest.
