CW Signal at 4095.884 kHz
« on: March 22, 2026, 1944 UTC »
Hi,

practically every day I see a CW signal close to 4096 kHz. Today it started at around 17:20 UTC and for around 45 minutes the frequency shifts for maybe 17 Hz downwards in frequency. Once it settles the exact frequency is 4095.884 kHz. I do compare with a GPS disciplined signal generator so it should be fairly accurate. I only see roughly equally long pieces so I am not sure whether it is supposed to be dits or dashes. Mostly they come in two so it could be the letter "M" or "I" but sometimes there are 3 dashes and they seem to me a bit messy if that makes sense. I do not see an actual pattern however the signal is close to the noise limit of my setup. Antenna is a magnetic loop located on the balcony in suburban environment close to Berlin/Germany.

Any idea what signal I am seeing? I would like to know.

I'd like to add pictures of spectrograms but haven't found out how that works. Clicking at "insert image" gives me brackets with "img" but no way to upload or insert an image.

Greetings, Bernhard

Hello Bernhard!

For images the forum cannot host so your photos would have to be uploaded to a hosting service. Next you take the URL they assign to the image and paste it into the space between the two sets of brackets with img and /img in them.

I don't have much information about beacons in your area but there happens to be one called "Common & Precious" in Germany that is close to the frequency you listed.

Common & Precious, CW AND RTTY (170HZ SHIFT 50 BAUD 2 STOP BITS), BASE LOADED 5M VERTICAL WITH CAPACITY HAT, 35M ABOVE GROUND. 50W in Germany
