30m radio beacon with solar power
« on: June 08, 2026, 1721 UTC »
I have started trying to get a beacon up and running using a 10W ebay tx originally built for 13.56MHz but converted to 10.140KHz. The transmitter is powered down to 2,25W due to power constraints. It will be controlled using a Arduino Micro that checks voltage, temperature and number of cycles. TX will be done by CW at 15 speed. Intervall will probably be variable depending on battery voltage, i only have a small 10W solar panel.

The Arduino Micro has a sleep mode i will try to get the idle current down, and the TX has 14mA idle current, and 600mA at transmitt. The box is designed to be strapped to a wooden post and left there without taking in water. The radio beacon will be tested in southern scandinavia.
