New jamming signal on 5890khz?
« on: August 31, 2026, 0054 UTC »
Noticed this just now whilst tuning around per usual. Loud digital garble noise on 5890. Hard to hear if WRMI is there or not behind it. Wonder if you've also heard it.

When I said I wished there was something else to listen on here, this isn't what I had in mind!

At the time you posted (0000 utc hour), Iran International TV is scheduled to be broadcasting.  Perhaps the jamming is of them.
WWCR goes on the air at 0200 UTC on 5890.

PS  - I also have Queens roots.  Grew up in the 60's within spitting distance of Queens Blvd in Elmhurst, was there for the construction of the (almost perfectly) round Macy's.

CT Yankee, I'm unfortunately part of the problem (moved to Queens, not native). If you remember many years ago, I was posting from my hometown Haddon Heights, NJ. I absolutely love it here though (Ridgewood specifically). The noise floor is dramatically higher than where I used to be, of course. But we make do with what we can. Thinking of investing in a SW antenna with a noise filter to replace my longwire. I'm lucky enough to have a backyard and the landlord doesn't mind me setting up antennas. I even have a 1/4 wave FM antenna on a mast I built with some steel poles which has worked a good amount of e-skip this summer!
