Sadly, Radio North 846 kHz, which has broadcast for close on 40 years, was taken off the air on September 10th by Comreg.

After reading comments on another forum, like "I don't know what, if anything, got taken", I will add this.
Comreg took everything! Even the connectors from the Heliax. They also took the Nautel Ampfet that used to run at Radio North, which has not been operational in many years. Beautiful transmitter, gone! Tuning unit at the tower base, gone.
Hopefully that's that cleared up.

Radio Star Country 981 kHz has switched off as a result of the raid on Radio North
I have been informed that the Coast FM relay on 1593 kHz will leave the air shortly.   (See comment below)

The raid on Radio North is a devastating blow to Irish free radio, that is my opinion, as is the fact that there are people out there who should be ashamed of themselves. I will call them the instigators who are responsible for their actions, which brought on the demise of Radio North 846 kHz.

A sombre 73 to all

This was instigated by the operator of 'Asfalttelegrafen telegraph', a temporary AM station in Sweeden. It is so sad that after 40+ years Radio North has been destroyed by the selfish and jealous actions of the owner of "Asfalttelegrafen telegraph" who has been actively asking people to report unlicensed AM broadcasts to Comreg. I hope the radio enthusiast community will act accordingly and not support/QSL this Swedish station. 846KHz is actually a 10KW Irish allocation and the low band frequency of 846 never generated a massive sky wave in my opinion . The frequencies allocated to Asfalttelegrafen telegraph have always been top of the band so 846 was causing the operator no issues.

Yes can confirm the Swedish angry man was going on a vendetta against any ‘unauthorised stations’ as they interfered with his old frequency. A ton of emails were sent shouting to many to get into action. Of course they were ignored as a rant but sad to see it has had effect.

The radio world is a small one, step out of line like this and you will be closed off. Best to keep out of others business and concentrate on your own.

This is awfully sad news. Radio North was a professional set up with professional equipment serving its community. I truly believe that the nasty actions of nasty little men will be punished by equally bad things which will come to them from the bad karma that they have created.

Arctic. A ton of emails to who exactly?

Other radio stations, DX groups and others unknown to me…….I don’t fully know the extent of it all but people were told to ‘shout about it’ and words like ‘tired of all the f-ing Pirates’. Basically a very entitled operator who thought he had the right over anyone else because he held a licence in a different country.

Radio has always been full of channels and surprise, surprise there is and always has been nightime interference.

Entitled just about sums it up really.

Is there anything about this in the mainstream media? I’ve looked at Donegalnews etc. and can’t see a thing. Strange, n’est-ce pa?
I remember the newspaper headlines from station raids in the (distant) past.
