https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Y_TsQ7tGAE         I do give this dude credit for trying to explain this, since this does effect Part 15 Certified gear, I´ve included this here, but the rules still seem to make your head scratch in, ¨What????¨. I´ve been going back & forth with Caryn, KD4GUT, on this, since I was asking how Amateur Radio Newsline would report this. And, she´s as confused as I am. Hmmmmmmmm... (Hey Andrew??? Could this be a good subject for Hobby broadcasting Show #6, to interview a legal analyst upon this subject?) Passing contemplation. Anyway... The Part 15 part of this, if I understand correctly, if something released after October 13, 2026, (a.k.a., today...),  any thing from this date, with the FCC Certification Numbers stamped on, can not be modified in any way. Now, how would that effect kits & DIY projects? Hmmmmmmm????
The best two statements of advice that I've ever gotten are from my brother-in-law in the early 1990's. 1st one, when I bought a used '89 Olds Cutless, my bro-in-law said, "Congratulations!!! You've just bought a deficit!". The other, was on a work environment, " No matter where you go, it's going to be f***'ed -up!". No truer words have been spoken.

I like his T-shirt. Interesting topic but I don't see this new labeling requirement as having any particular impact on our hobby at all really. It's just that now the actual date of certification must also be displayed on the unit, whereas before it only had to display just the certification code/number. It has no affect of on Home brew units at all,  which only require compliance, however now home built devices now can't use any 'banned parts' from the FCC "covered list" of  certain manufacturers (for the sake of "national security").

The reason for these changes probably stems from the recent proposals (which may have already been passed by now) concerning the expanding part 15 communications between earth and space with satellites.

Correction: I misunderstood, it doesn't actually require date of certification be displayed. What's going on  is not so much in regard to the manufactures directly but rather targeting the online marketing of these devices , that they must display the actual FCC ID directly on the product listing itself, online anywhere n the descriptions, in stores directly on the outer packaging itself. It's basically making the certification more predominate in the actual marketing.

The date of certification is only addressed in regard to when the product had actually been manufactured - If the device was manufactured and certified prior to the current "covered list" ban of components then it can still be legally sold .

The FCC is shifting who is legally responsible more to the point of sale marketers
