Swift Observatory Final Transmission eQSL - 16 OCT
« on: October 17, 2026, 1451 UTC »
Thanks for the eQSL and all the broadcasts - as Neil Young would sing: "It's better to burn out than to fade away"

This is the final transmission of the Swift Observatory launched on November 20, 2004 to study gamma-ray bursts and other high-energy cosmic events.  It is expected her plunge into the Earth's atmosphere leading to a fiery end will occur Oct-Nov 2026.  Reentry latitude is expected to span between 21 degrees North and 21 degrees South, with any surviving debris most likely falling into the ocean.   Amazingly engineers are still conducting science.

The last eQSL simulates Swift's fiery end via the  Kerbal Space Program.

Goodbye

Swift
