Hi everyone - you may enjoy this item from Joe Buch, who had the
pleasure of visiting St. Helena a few years back...

Robert Kipp sent me some information on a new RSH web site.  He was
instrumental in getting Radio St. Helena Day's final SW broadcast on
the air in 2009.  I have some pictures from my visit there in 2010
which I intend to send to the webmaster.  Please pass along to any
clubs with which you may be affiliated.

I thought I would draw your attention to our Radio St. Helena page
at   http://sainthelenaisland.info/radiosthelena.htm   and
ask if you have any photos, stories or anecdotes to contribute?
I've already had input from Ralph Peters and Tony Leo,
but more is always welcome.

Al, do you know why they stopped doing the annual broadcasts?

From what I remember, they actually announced the end in the late 90s, and had a very successful Radio St. Helena  Day that year. It attracted a lot of attention and even pledges of money and equipment, This allowed it to continue later on, as the primary reason for shutting down was the cost of maintaining and replacing the aging equipment.

They came back on the air at a later date; I was not following this too closely, so I don't know the circumstances that allowed them to continue. I think, again, they decided to shut down due to the cost and effort of maintaining the station.
