A 2097.3 CW 0500 UTC 24 Sep 2015 into Northern California
« on: September 24, 2015, 0509 UTC »
This is my first post. Hello! I don't expect to be posting very often, but you never know................

The A beacon is coming through very weakly into the SF Bay Area - about an S1, though perfectly Q5, as there is no QRM.

Does anyone know where this beacon is, or how much power it runs, what kind of antenna, etc?

Still weak yet clearly readable 7 hours later at 1230z (5:30am local and still in darkness here). Looks like it may be a regular nighttime catch from my location.

In the 12/2009 MT Magazine was the Beacon listed on page 30 as the following:

2097.3 “A”-CW beacon, possibly in AZ, CW at 1033 (Jim-GA)

I know this is still vague, but maybe pointing in the right direction.

RX: Elad FDM-S2, Grundig Satellit 700
Ant.: HDLA 3 (Active Loop)@315°, EWE@270°, ALA 100LN, MiniWhip
QTH: JO31 (Germany)

Thank you Oliver. It comes through loudly on the Mojave Desert receiver at www.globaltuners.com so that might be some sort of indication as well. I only listened for it the first time a few nights ago, but have received it weakly yet consistently all night for the last 2 nights.

You just reminded me that I probably ought to subscribe to MT - have often thought of doing that.

MT was discontinued last year.

Take look at this link.
TSM will pretty much cover the content of the former MT.

Thanks Oliver. I think I knew that, but spaced it. I follow Thomas' blog and now remember seeing this post.

Thanks for the reminder!

Yes, "A" is reported to be out of AZ.  It is also probably one of the highest powered High Frequency Beacons in regular, and prolonged, use.
