TS beacon - anyone???
« on: February 08, 2010, 0139 UTC »
I have not seen any recent reception reports of TS on 8189.6 kHz.  I'm apparently too close to hear it - can someone give a listen?

I was thinking of hiking in to the site this weekend to check it out but the weather and time didn't allow it.

Any reports are greatly appreciated - thanks!

Well, whenever I thought the beacon might be dead, someone comes up with a reception report.  I'm hoping it is still ticking away...  I think the last report was about 2 weeks ago.

The next chance I get - time and wx cooperating - I hope to hike in to the site just to check it out.  We've had some pretty good winds up there and I just want to see how well it's survived the winter so far.

The 4 mhz beacons have been doing fairly well here lately - as one might expect in winter here in the US...

Wow  - Thanks Mark!!!

I have too much noise on 8 mhz lately here where my RX is located.  Before the noise started (sometime in Nov I think) we could usually hear TS locally, albeit very faint...  I was never sure if it was making it to me via ground wave or NVIS.  But, it's been a few months since I've heard it at all...

Back in mid-Nov or so we had great NVIS conditions here in Colorado - Bill and I could hear each others' beacons just whamming into our local receivers - it was incredible!  We are about 50 miles apart or so.

I plan to hike in to the site the next chance I get to check on it.  It's seen most of the winter so far and thought it might want a visit... I'm sure glad to hear it's still tickin'.

Again, thanks for the report!  YAY!!!

TS being heard at 6pm central time in Dallas area this evening.  Not real strong, with fades, but very clear at times.  Reported to me via telephone...!  Listener using an FT-817 and a wire at fencetop height (6').
