LIXO CW 6918.46 0030 UTC 12 Nov 2016
« on: November 12, 2016, 0034 UTC »
I am hearing a beacon sending LIXO over and over in CW. I know this frequency has been used in the past both by Russian beacons, as well as pirate beacons.

Reception is fairly good, not super strong, but you can decode the CW by ear.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I mis-logged this as 6917.6 kHz. It is actually 6918.46 kHz.

I checked past SDR recordings, and it was on 6918.35 at 0243 the night before, 11 Nov 2016, with a strong signal.
Also at 0326 on 10 Nov 2016.
And of course it was really on continuously on these other days, I just spot checked these times. I don't see it early Nov 9th, however.
The first time I note it is 2224z on 9 Nov 2016, on 6918.36 kHz, with a good signal.

I notice that at 2119z it is audible on Twente.

Fade out time here is around 0830 to 0900. I suspected a QTH in Canada, perhaps the maritimes. But maybe it is in the UK or the edge of Europe? When is sunrise now there, and how long after until the D layer forms?

Observed again on the SDR recordings.

Based on the fade in and out times, plus the fact that "Lixo" means garbage in Portuguese, I now suspect this is either in Brazil, or at least related to our Pescadore friends.
