For some time, I've been thinking about setting up a Slack channel for the HFUnderground, which would allow online real-time chatting, including the ability to directly embed images, sound files, and other files and upload directly in the chat. You can also have multiple forums (channels) as well. Think of it as IRC on steroids.
One problem has been how Slack handles guests and new users. There's another similar service called Ryver, that is a bit more flexible in this area. I've created an account there for the HFUnderground. The following URL will take you there, and let you sign up to use it. I think this could be a valuable way to exchange information instantly, and is a bit more modern than IRC. It's not meant to completely replace IRC or the message board here, just complement it.
In addition to access it via your web browser, there are applications for Windows, Mac, linux, iOS, and Android:
https://ryver.com/downloads/It may take some time to reach a critical mass of users, so please keep checking it, if you don't see any activity.
Here's the URL to join:
https://hfunderground.ryver.com/application/signup/members/ETSJZ6NeqO-kqjt Don't worry about the "Role" question, you can put anything there. Your username is what you will log in with, the display name is what others see.
After you join, click on the "General Chat" forum in the upper left part of the window, that is where most of the chatting is right now.
