UNID 6950 FM 2200 UTC 14 Jan 2017
« on: January 14, 2017, 2203 UTC »
Thought this was AM for a second, but nope, its FM!

"You have selected Microsoft David Mobile as the default voice"

Then signal disappeared (2202 UTC)...and then came back at 2204 UTC (or possibly earlier) with "I can't tell you why" by the Eagles....now an OM saying "FM! FM! F M ! you know, FM!", into "I Can't Tell You Why" by The Eagles at 2206 UTC.

I've got the Eagles' "I Can't Tell You Why" but hard to say if it's in AM or FM.  I can only really hear it in AM USB mode, but it's clearly dual side band.

2208Z 25432 S5 The Eagles

FM is sounding really good when the signal is strong. However, with the fading, its not that great.

Great experiment in any case.

Quality FM audio when the signal is at its highest.  Signal peaking at S7.  Sounds really good.

Nice to see FM being used on these frequencies.  Signal is about 10 kHz 15 kHz wide at the highest deviation levels.

2210 UTC - Steely Dan - FM (of course!)  ;D
2215 UTC - OM said "Frequency Modulation" several times, then some clips from various Led Zeppelin songs

2208 Eagles playing, some fading, good signal. This is interesting.
2210 "FM"
2214 OM talking, fading tough copy. Bits of Led Zeppelin. S7 peaks but deep fade.
2219 "Dancing Days" playing, signal down, a lot more fade. A little hard to listen to now.
2222 OM with "FM"? then OFF, thanks for the FM.

Checking the SDR recording, this was coming in pretty well at 2150 sign on. As long as the signal was S9+ the audio was good, but once the signal faded a bit, it was all over, as you'd expect with FM mode.
