WHYP 6950 USB 0100 18 March 2017
« on: March 18, 2017, 0101 UTC »
0100 Devo "Whip It" SIO 222 with some nice fade ins, and I think an OM humming along with it at times. The song was on a loop for a while.
0105 OM speaking, hearing some numbers like 46, then back into "Whip It"
0106 OM speaking, making out every few words. "Radio station" among them. YL with "general announcement for listeners in Toronto area." Fading in and out. OM speaking. CBC Radio mentioned. Sound of OM groaning or humming. This continues for a while.
0109 Blues Brothers "She Caught The Katy"
0114 Circle Jerks "Parade of the Horribles" nice selection
0115 OM voice then Living Colour "Love Rears Its Ugly Head"
0119 Queen "Dragon Attack"
0123 WHYP ID
0124 The Knack "Baby Talks Dirty"
0127 Beatles "Sexy Sadie"
0130 WHYP ID
0131  The Kinks "Superman (Wish I Could Fly Like)"
0136 OM voice
0137 Right Said Fred "I'm Too Sexy"
0140 ABC "How To Be a Millionaire"
0143 synthpop song with gothy OM vocals, shazam not recognizing it, neither am I
0146 voices, sounds like child or YL, and OM. Something about "period" at 0148, think it's definitely a YL. Dad teaching girl about menstruation skit.
0153 quiet for a moment, then music I think. It's really faded now.
0154 not seeing a signal on the waterfall anymore

Thanks for the show! Signal was overall SIO 222, with occasional nice moments of strong signal that didn't last very long.

Video of reception during "I'm Too Sexy": https://youtu.be/8x6e-NTDStQ

0230 seems to be back on. Hearing loop of OM saying keep away from drugs, into what sounded like the WHYP ID at 0232.
0237 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "You Got Lucky" coming in real nice, out of nowhere
0241 Beatles "Good Night"
0245 voices, sound of police siren, then off

S9 steady into SE Texas

2000Z Whip It by Devo, although slightly remixed with lots of chorus and bridge repeats, and possibly the DJ adding some commentary: "Buffalo 40, Cleveland 53?" I dunno. It's too muffled.

2000Z some clips from CBC Radio One 99.1 in Toronto regarding leaving 740AM.

I hear nothing but light background noise here in Chicagoland.
Drake R8, Kenwood R-2000, Panasonic RF-4900, Sony 2010, Realistic DX440, Grundig Satellit 500, 7mhz backyard dipole, Mt Prospect, IL 20miles (32km) NW of downtown Chicago. I have been using online receivers because of strong data hash interference in my neighborhood that I believe is caused by Uverse squeezing up to 100mb/sec through ordinary pairs of wires. I don't have Uverse but neighbors do. williamhassig@yahoo.com

Nice reception into Victoria, BC at 01:12 UTC tune in.  Glad someone recognizes music better than I do!  Just into another song at 01:14 UTC.  S4 to S5 signal, but in the clear, so I'd give it an SIO of 3-5-4 overall.  I'm using my Perseus SDR and best reception is on a north directed corner fed loop antenna vs a couple of ALA 100s.  QSL anyone?  To CANSWL (at) Gmail (dot) com.

Strongest pirate station I've ever heard, but I get the feeling I'm not cool enough for the playlist...

Still going strong at 0209.

0145 UTC - Signal is S3 in WNY. Can hear music but too weak to make it out.
Location: Western New York ( Niagara Frontier)
Radio :TS480 with RTL-SDR pan-adapter, HDSDR software, Omni-Rig Control, Zenith T/O R600,T600
Antenna: 40m dipole, 20-17-15 meter fan dipole. One of N. Tesla's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.
