Re: DGPS Logs 14-15 Aug 2017
I also did an impromptu run on the resonant PVC loop last night, using the SDR-14. It ran from about 0100-1300z, and the loop happened to be aimed roughly north, not really ideal for DX targets. There's some earlier data from about 2230-0100 in the recordings as well while I was adjusting things, but not many decodes during that period.

Some interesting things. First, even though the loop has a high Q when you look at the spectrum, there's a useable signal outside that area. Pretty much covering the entire DGPS band, although heavily attenuated, so perhaps only strong stations can be received this way? More experimentation is required.

Compare these results against the message above for the beverage/AFE822 results. For several stations, mostly those this loop was aimed at, results were better than the beverage. Sometimes significantly better. Yet for other stations much worse, Moise QC for example. One tricky issue with DGPS reception is that you need to both get propagation from the station in question, as well as not get propagation from another station (DGPS, NDB, or otherwise) on the same frequency. So it is possible the loop was picking up something else, causing reduced decodes.

I'm fairly happy with the results, even if I am also puzzled by them  ;D

I'll try to run again tonight, maybe with the loop aimed in a better direction. The question is whether to go for Europe or the Pacific Northwest.

Interesting!

I don't see any NDBs which might be in conflict with 313 for you.  There aren't too many NDBs in the 286-324 range due to the horrid digital QRM which is always there.

Congrats on Azores. Yes, it does look like your DX season has begun. Let the games begin!

What does your QRM look like on the band with the two antennas? Could the loop be picking up something near 313 that interfered?

Congrats on Azores. Yes, it does look like your DX season has begun. Let the games begin!

What does your QRM look like on the band with the two antennas? Could the loop be picking up something near 313 that interfered?

If only I had some app that could generate a waterfall at a specific frequency from an SDR recording file...  oh yeah.  Carrier Sleuth.

313 looks clean, actually:
