Ozy Radio Australia 5045 AM 1015 UTC 31 Aug 2017
« on: August 31, 2017, 1021 UTC »
1015 Heard for the second morning in a row. Weak, but some audio getting through the noise now and then. Not bad for 500 watts AM from Australia.
1040 Better signal now, constant audio.

It was a lot stronger here last night too, actually quite readable.  Around 0930z the transmitter went crazy, seemed to rapidly shift frequency then went off the air.  Still off at 0950z.  Good work Chris logging that one too, I wonder if it's a legal transmission or pirate?

Legal station, got an eQSL email, they said 500 watts.

Heard again this morning, 1 Sep 2017, around 1030z but not as strong as yesterday. I may hang out a few more minutes and see if the greyline helps as it did before.

AUSTRALIA. 5045, Ozy Radio, 1132-1156 UTC, Sept 2. Best reception so far! EZL pop songs; just a little bit too weak to be able to ID them; fortunately the most distinctive feature of the broadcast is the old Radio Australia's "Waltzing Matilda" and that came through loud and clear (my audio clip - http://goo.gl/jai54P), which was heard at 1156, as well as at 1142, then followed by "Ozy Radio" ID and email address (only able to make out bits & pieces of announcement). After 1156, was unable to again hear any audio (none at all). So seemed to just be a brief spot with unusually good propagation?

Very pleased to be able to catch so nice a reception of the Ozy Radio IS. Certainly makes it much easier for us listeners in North America to positively ID Craig Allen's licensed low powered station.

Heard it very strong from 0715z last evening with a 5X9 plus 20dB over report.

Around 0740z they aired some news lifted of "Air Tassie News" and also heard Australian Magpie song birds plus usual Laughing Kookaburra's and Waltzing Matilda jingle.  "All Australian music" was also announced plus address ozyradio@gmail.com for reception reports and comments... :D

Tends to disappear into the noise once darkness approaches here as too close for low band propagation.

Still no sign of the plan northern Queensland station on 5.055MHz AM that was planned to be on air five weeks ago, believe they experienced transmitter issues.

Weak, but there this morning about 10:45 UTC on a inverted "L" w/ about 70 feet of wire. A faint music and voice, but it was there. My initial reaction was "No F'in' way!" until I heard a melodious Aussie accent pop up out of the noise.

You never know what you'll hear unless you try.

I've tried the last few days, but only had a carrier. I think I am listening too early, the other morning when I got good audio, it was right on the grayline. The opening was brief, but for 5 or 10 minutes there was a really good signal.

Ozy Radio must have extended their transmission schedule as I heard them 2100-2220z on 5.045MHz AM readable with fades up to 10dB over at best this morning my time. :D

2200z: Laughing Kookaburra, Waltzing Matilda, "Giday Giday this is Ozy Radio on 5045 Kilohertz..."

So much for their theme of "100% Australian music..." At 2156z this morning my time they played "Six Months In A Leaky Boat" which was released in 1982 by New Zealand band Split Enz. ;D

Still coming in at 2245z here but getting weaker as the new day begins.  Ceased transmission at 2359z, complete shutdown, no carrier left. Noted back on air at 0430z plus 10dB over. Maybe they are heading towards a 24 hour transmission?

Popped them off a reception report highlighting the error in playing a New Zealand hit...maybe a "Lucky Door" prize out of it. 8)

Quick reply to report sent, just over an hour actually from Ozy Radio:  "Thanks for your feedback." Ozy Radio, sent from Samsung Galaxy Smartphone.[/b]

No QSL attachment though... ???
