Quick spin through the tropical bands
« on: September 05, 2017, 1018 UTC »
Quick spin this morning through the lower bands, mostly list logging to see what I can find:

3260 Radio Madang? Not much more than a carrier
3310 Presumed Radio Mosoj, Bolivia, good signal
3325 NBC Bougainville, weak
4875.26 Radiodifusora Roraima, fair signal
4885 Radio Clube do Para?, good signal
4925.2 Rural Educacao Rural, fair to good signal
5020 Solomon Islands B.C, weak, and very tough copy with adjacent Cuba on 5025
5045 Radio Ozy, just a weak carrier, I will check again closer to sunrise, hoping for some grayline enhancement

I check 4875 and 4885 in the evenings  , normally weak but have been solid recently . Roraima used to play an interesting mix of US pop and Latino , but haven't heard that programming in a long while
They (4875) pull the plug at 3z every night

I had 4884, presumed Radio Clube do Para, this am around 12:15 UTC, just before sunrise here, just on my PL-600 and its built in whip, weak but very much there. That's a station I can almost never copy, but if I go for a walk with it and get away from my block's terrible RFI that plagues 3.9-5.1 MHz things change. I also got Pyongyang at 6400 with the clearest signal I've had in ages (re: I could hear music), but that of course isn't the tropical band or a tropical station.

Out here in California, 4885 kHz., after 1000 UTC,
is totally dominated by Echo of Hope - VOH, from
South Korea. Always heard with very strong reception.

Typical reception for me - http://goo.gl/8shH2m .

The hour long program in Korean is "Radio Broadcasting
Guide," which is repeated again every hour and is provided
for by "Foreign Family Alliance"; this program is different
from the other Echo of Hope VOH frequencies, hence
4885 is NOT // to 3985, 5995, 6250, 6350 nor 9100.

At 3 minutes after the top-of-the-hour they have a gong/bell
rung slowly three times (very distinctive), followed by full ID
in Korean.

Thanks very much to Amano-san (Japan) for providing the ID
in Korean and also with English translation.

- Sound of the bell; 3 times.

 - Female start announcement:

 - VOH SJ "hui mang!"

:English

 - Sound of the bell; 3 times.

 - Female start announcement:
"Hello to all my fellow countrymen and overseas fellows!
This broadcast is VOH - Echo of Hope sent from the Foreign Family
Alliance.
Our VOH - Echo of Hope communicates the courage and hope to
everyone with constantly quick and accurate news and truth content
as one foreign brother broadcast, with the unity of peace in our country
and the freedom and prosperity of our fellow countrymen.
VOH - Echo of Hope will be broadcast at 3985 kHz, 4885 kHz, 5995 kHz,
6250 kHz, 6350 kHz, 9100 kHz with shortwave from 3 pm in homeland
time to 9 o'clock on the next day.
Then, I wish for many people 's love hearings, and I will start "Radio
Broadcasting Guide" for all my friends.
This is Echo of Hope sent from the Foreign Family Alliance. VOH."

 - VOH SJ "Hope!"

Is wonderful to have Amano-san provide the ID in Korean, so I can
follow along with my recording.

Clube do Para has been blasting at and just after dusk recently, but I'm way the east of you. Even with the storms of the past couple of days they've been solid. 60 meters lately is as good as I've heard it in years.

Interesting. I had thought it strange that I could copy Clube because at that time of day I have never copied anything European, African, or South American. I have copied Caribbean (re: RHC) however, and wondered in Clube was just close enough to make it here. Echo of Hope VOH is much more likely now that I know they're on 4885. Problem is that it's been too faint to tell what exactly is being broadcast.
