Radio Taiwan International 6180 am 1045 utc 7 Oct 2017
« on: October 07, 2017, 1048 UTC »

Fair reception.  Since RNZI is a lost cause until sunrise, I figured I'd spin the dial.  Heard something faint & oriental on 6180 and knew it couldn't be Radio Nacional.  Upon research, it is RTI in Chinese from Taiwan, beaming at 300 degrees - the long way here.

1045z OM and YL in Chinese between poor and fair reception, some noise and fades

Sorry to be a skeptic, but have you positively eliminated CNR1 jamming as the station? I generally look for CNR1 listings on the schedule and compare audio. I've found from experience that Mandarin language broadcasts originating outside of the PRC are virtually impossible to copy because of this.

I didn't see anything listed for CNR1 but I guess it is possible.

Depends on the schedule. Eibi lists the possibility of jamming, and since I believe China uses multiple transmitters to do it (because they often sound fluttery), the signals propagate well.

I couldn't find a specific CNR1 listing that I could compare it to myself. But I do have RTI in English on 7445 right now, fair copy at best. At 1200z the language will switch to Mandarin, and CNR1 will come on at that time with an overwhelming signal which will be about S9 here. I'll know it's CNR1 because the RTI signal will remain on the same transmitter with the same power and azimuth, therefore unlikely to gain so much strength at that time.
