For some experimentation, I tried a totally different antenna:
Instead of my usual large EWE to Northwest, this time it is a simple 10m vertical with step down transformer to 75Ohm Coax - very similar, than some people are calling Low-noise-vertical...
Well "low-noise' is rather relative - this vertical is no less noisier than any other antenna at the same place, however much weaker in signal output than my very large EWE.
But it is interesing to see, that station from South (Spain, France) as well as stations from Northeast (Scandinavia) are much more often decoded, than with the EWE, due to its pronounced directive pattern to Northwest (USA/CAN).
As a result the vertical has more qrm on the frequencies of the US-DGPS Beacons and also the beacons from Europe are much louder than from Northamerica - for transatlantic DX, the directive pattern is missing..
I did only have a few radials, however earth is not too bad here for verticals...
