For several years, America's first sports station WFAN has been simulcasted on the original 660 am and 101.9 fm. The reason was the skyscrapers and apartments were not kind to the am broadcast. For the second time in eight days, management is splitting transmissions. The NY Yankees will be on the FM broadcast vs the Cleveland Indians while the am broadcast will feature a NY Giant exhibition game.
I find this a curious decision that a regular season Yankee game would be relegated to fm. Perhaps the thought is that the Yankee radio network will cover the hinter lands. If you want to catch the game outside the network area, WTAM 1100 am Cleveland (50k watts) can be received. (Truth be told, their announcers are better). Lately, WHLI 1100am Long Island, NY has been behaving and going off air at designated night time hours, this hasn't always been the case.
In years past, the NY Giants would be bumped to sister station WCBS 880 am when there was a conflict. However, WCBS am is now the flagship, and lone network station, for the NY Mets.
