CBK (CBC Radio One) on 540 heard in Texas
« on: November 30, 2008, 1832 UTC »
11/30/08, 540 AM, Canada CBK (CBC Radio One, Regina, SK, per web data and Maple Leaf - thx, leaf!), positive ID at 1258 UTC with news break.  Not sure whether pop/rock music heard between 1100-1338 UTC also CBK or other.  Definitely not the usual Spanish language powerhouse normally on 540 here.  SINPO - 32422  (N. Central TX)

A first for me in N. Central Texas on indoor portable.  Apparently Magnavox D2935 has sharper Q than I'd realized for MW on internal loopstick.  Had to fidget radio around just so within a half-inch range to null out powerful Spanish language station.

1100-1200 UTC
Billy Joel - Uptown Girl
Motels - Only the Lonely
Rolling Stones - Start Me Up
Sting - Fields of Gold
1200- UTC
Robert Palmer - Some Like it Hot
Solid as a Rock
Beatles - Get Back (faded abruptly during song)
1253z: Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (barely audible)
1258z: Announcer mention of name Terry O., Terrio or Therrio?, reference to "Vinyl Cafe", possible IDs, obscured by fade and QRM.  News, started with story about Mumbai terrorism event;  Canadian references to federal government, economic crisis, and Prime Minister Steven/Stephen (last name unclear)?  CBC or CBK ID.  News break sounded like our U.S. PBS material, Morning Edition, etc.
1304z: Faded, barely audible under QRM from Mexican station.
1336z: Traveling Wilburys
1338z: Berlin - Take My Breath Away (suddenly faded out after local dawn)
That li'l ol' DXer from Texas
Unpleasant Frequencies Crew
Al: Palstar R30C & various antennae
Snoopy: Sony ICF-2010
Roger: Magnavox D2935
(Off-air recordings.)
