HCJB Quito 6050 AM 0232 UTC 17 Oct. 2020
« on: October 17, 2020, 0818 UTC »
I've been trying off and on for a few weeks to catch this one, but the 49-meter band is still pretty noisy here much of the time. But I heard signal carrier through the noise with what sounded like Spanish talking by a male. Audible only in USB mode at first.

As a religious-sounding rock song played at 0241 UTC, I could hear bits of it coming through in AM mode, but just barely audible at best. By 0247 UTC, a ballad-style song by female singer was audible at times in LSB mode. Same with the livelier adult-contemporary song that followed. Then male talking at 0254 UTC, then music again a moment later. Audio was almost audible without SSB by then.

I tuned in again at 0330 UTC and heard a slow ballad with a male singer nicely audible in AM mode. As 0400 UTC approached, the signal was sinking back in the noise.

I know it's not quite the same station, but the big old HCJB signal was my first-ever shortwave logging as a teen back in 1984, so hearing this still brought a smile to my face.
