As you can see from the photo, my wife caught a picture of it while I was viewing with spotting scope (right side). This was 2200 utc on 21 Dec when it was first visible, our sunset was at 2120 utc. It was almost exactly SW, about 45 degrees above horizon - much higher then I expected. Where I was, I would have lost in a snow fog if it was under 20 degrees from the horizon. Looks like one bright star with naked eye, saw rings on Saturn and Jupiter alongside with spotting scope - could not get photo via scope.
