WWCR Spur 6970 2310 UTC
« on: October 16, 2012, 2323 UTC »
Heard in OM in American EE with either economic or political talk. This could be a spur from a US SWBC stn. Someone else heard it on IRC, so I don't think it was locally generated.

I finally learned to ignore this persistent "signal". Its here every night for me. Sometimes with hints of audio.

I suspect it is from the WWCR site, which is on 6875 most evenings. Maybe a mix of that and one of the other WWCR freqs. WWCR has a couple of shows on 6875 of a similar theme.

I wasted several nights on this last winter, finally realizing the audio I was hearing was from WWCR.

Bingo! That is exactly what it is. I captured it on my 6800-7000 kHz SDR recording, and listened at 2318z, and then listened to 6875 at the same time, and it was the exact same program.

Thanks for the info. Now I can ignore it as well.

A list I was using at the time seemed to indicate some "tantalizing" far way-exotic station on 6970. I listened to that thing for at least five nights. I still stop on it, then quickly move on.

I just had to admit that I had a problem with 6970, and then my recovery began.

I finally had a few moments to run the numbers on some WWCR frequencies...

13845−6875=6970.   Thats the mix that produced this "signal".

This spur just got me again. It took about ten minutes before I realized that's what I was listening to.

11/28 2330 Something huge on 6970.... but this does not appear to be WWCR mix. Is this a firedrake?

Sounds vaguely oriental, Pretty much non stop music. It has a "flutter" that I associate with something coming from a long way away, thru a somewhat tortured path.

<EDIT>

Scratch that. It went away at the exact same time that 6875 left the air. I guess I still have a problem with 6970. I will have to go see my shrink now.

I need to post a sticky note by the radio "If you hear something on 6970, ignore it, it is just WWCR"

At least the fact that more than one of us is hearing it confirms it's not a problem with our radio, but with WWCR's transmitter.   Maybe we should send them a reception report, CC'd to the FCC? :-)

Don't scratch that quite so fast.... checking the SDR recording, I have what certainly sounds like Firedrake, up until 2300z sign off, on 6970. very good signal, S8 to S9.

Not noted here around 2330 as per your log, however.

See that programming did make me stop. And it did not have the "slow rolling" fades I see from WWCR, which is just up the road a piece from my QTH. The fact that it went away when WWCR went away brought me back to this being from the WWCR plant.

I have to go see my therapist now.....this withdrawal from 6970 is not going well for me.....
