WHAS 840 AM 0440 UTC Jan 2 2022
« on: January 02, 2022, 0829 UTC »
My first MW logging of 2022 is a station I've been chasing for a little while. I parked on 840 and nulled CFCW as well as I could, leaving KMAX and KXNT on top of the crowd on that frequency. I heard the "Art Bell: Somewhere in Time" show bubble up around 0440 UTC. I checked an SDR in Kentucky and found the audio on my radio in sync with WHAS.

I also heard part of the top-of-the-hour legal ID and start of ABC News, followed at 0502 UTC by the start of WHAS local news, which audibly matched the SDR feed from WHAS. The old Art Bell show started again with Clapton’s “Layla,” which also cut through the crowd on the frequency.

Distance from my location near Seattle to the transmitter is 1,930 miles; my second logged station from Kentucky.

Their nighttime broadcast pattern is absurdly large:   From Cuba to the South to central Ontario to the north and from mid-Colorado in the West to Maine in the East:

.....and sadly, when home, I am in the little circle on the map which favors reception of WRYM New Britian, CT (840 am).  I can't tell you how many times I have tried to receive sports coverage on WHAS only to be thwarted by the latest Latin chart topper.  As not to neglect the other two large ethnic populations, WRYM Sunday mornings  feature Italian and Polish fare.

Nice catch  :D

Hey All,

'HAS can be copied here on Select-A -Tenna  , ("at times"), despite MONSTER local WEEI on 850. Not easy, but not rare either.
