Equipment / Communications receiver
« on: September 04, 2012, 2007 UTC »
Hi. I've asked for advice on here before and got a lot of constructive feedback. Anyway I'm looking at buying a communications receiver to cover from 50 kHz to 30 MHz. I haven't got my radio license yet but was thinking of maybe doing it in a few months time. So should I go for an icom r75 or an frg 100 or buy a transceiver like the icom 718. The reason I'm asking this question is that I'm not a 100% certain I am going to get my license but didn't want to spend money on a communications receiver and then have to buy a transceiver on top if I do decide to go for my license next year. Has anybody got any suggestions? Also what are transceivers like the icom 718 like as communications receivers ? Is it best to go for receivers and transceivers seperatley  rather than all on ones .  Thanks

Equipment / all round desktop dx radio
« on: January 15, 2012, 0902 UTC »
Hi. I need to buy a desktop radio for dxing and am about to buy the eton 750. My budget is small so cant afford anything beyond 300 pounds. My two concerns though are is would it take external aerials especially for an and fm Dxing and would it overspill as a result of poor image rejection. My eton g3 dumps mw stations in lw frequencies. Has anybody got any experience with this reciever or has any other recommendations. I would hate to buy the eton 750 and find it had bad image rejection like the g3. I want the radio primarily for Dx. Any advice would be great.

Equipment / antenna for fm and sw dx eton g3
« on: January 08, 2012, 1805 UTC »
Hi. I live in a block of flats in England and want to significantly increase my potential for dxing using the eton g3. I cant have outside antennas other than maybe hanging an aerial off my balcony during summer months. What sort of antenna would fit this model and would one antenna serve both sw and Dx purposes. Thanks.

General Radio Discussion / sw overspill
« on: January 07, 2012, 1835 UTC »
Hi. My eton g3 often overspills. For example radio Espana at 7275 spans up to 7280. Although at the higher non broadcasts end its only faint it stops me pulling in the correct 7280 frequencies. Is there anything I can do. I bought this radio specifically for dxing. Thanks
