I was on in the late 80's from here in southern Ontario, Canada. You had 40 FM channels running from 27.601 up to just below the 10 meter Ham Band, when conditions were good then I could talk in local conversations on those UK frequencies, a lot of the time they would not believe I was across the Atlantic in Canada.
Maybe we have contacted each other in years gone by, I operated as 9AT113 from '87 to 2000, got just under 200 countries DXCC confirmed by direct mail QSL's on 11.
Actually gave it some thought and decided here as most operators on these frequencies would also freeband 11, these are not pirate broadcasters but qso type conversations, the other category I considered was the Peskies as their operation seems to be similar to what I was talking about. Found this link through google to give you a better understanding of this aspect of freebanding.

I remember that as the Kilo Papa Group call freq. back in the eighty's , run by a guy named Peter out of Stuart, Florida, it was a well respected group and popular in the Caribbean.

Not sure how up to date it is but this is the best resource I've seen on "CB " frequencies around the world. Back in the late 80's and 90's when I was heavily into 11 meter Freeband, I frequently talked to UK stations on their legal FM 40 channels that ran every 10 kcs from 26.60125 to 27.99125, in those days you could work the world with an omni antenna and a dozen watts. I also see a New Zealand contact SSB down below the US channel 1 and a comment in my old log that the operator said it was a legal NZ Frequency, loved that old 5 band silver President Jackson.

That chart looks like the one I had for my old silver faced President Jackson in the eighties except mine had the "A" frequencies that you got to with the plus 10kc button.

Yes , WTWW, initially when I heard it there was breaks in the audio and heard trying a new frequency and got a partial email for reception reports, I immediately assumed a pirate. No mention of any test freq on their website.

« on: March 08, 2018, 1400 UTC »They certainly do sound like the 43m version of 11m freebanders, they operate down here when 11m doesn't support propagation (in addition to the actual fishermen that we do occasionally hear). Which leads to the question... where else do they operate?

I used to live in the NW of the UK and was on 11m around the mid to late 80's when the skip was good.
I rarely TX these days, too busy building them!

I was more interested in North America than Europe, I have a 50 foot long wire but it doesn't hear as well as multi band fan dipole I could run back then as an inverted V on a free standing tower with a tuner.

As a freebander in the 80's and 90's I recall on occasion keying up on 3470 or 6670 lsb in the evening when 27MHz was dead. These freq's were more popular over in Europe but a few NA stations were OTA irregularly. Also 13555 usb too i think, anyone using these freqs today with 11 metres being quiet at this point in the solar cycle and enforcement not being what it was years ago? Not hearing anything but then I am antenna challenged compared to the wires I had up at that time.

I was just at Shopper's Drug Mart here in Ontario. They give you a pager that vibrates when your prescription is ready and you can do the rest of your shopping. Looking at the backside in the fine print it operates on 26.995 Mhz, channels 3A to some.
