Radio Totse 6925 USB 1055-1102 8Aug13
« on: August 08, 2013, 2056 UTC »
Recorder Catch on 6925USB, mode unknown

1055:18 First noted a het or tone (~1 kHz)
1056:53 Tone ended, music started.  It seemed to be soft rock.
1056:53 Music ended, some OM talk.  This was muffled and in the dirt, and hard to understand.
1057:26 Again noting music which faded out shortly
1100:00 Music was again noted
1101:09 Noted some OM talk, and the tone again for about 10 seconds.
1101:42 Music noted again, perhaps drums?
1102:00 Nothing else heard

Very weak at the floor with fading below at times.
It is possible that there might be more/other audio before/after this; I have not completely worked the file yet.

1055 is approx local SR

Thanks!
But whom am I thanking?

LOL! That reminds me of exactly what happened to a local FM station at night.... an intern's first solo shift.

Peace!

Based on SL and Dak comments here: http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,12080.0.html

I am marking this up as Radio Totse, which was suspected.  I could not understand the op talk, but the accent and voice compared favorably with previous copy of RT.  I wasn't sure if the tone was part of the program, or was some driveby carrier which was causing a het.

I am testing a PSK31 ID at the start, during ID and at sign off centred on 1 kHz so that may be what you heard. Whether you can receive it over the noise you described i'm not sure. But the times match that of when I was broadcasting.
Radio Totse.
Transceiver: Icom IC-718

Thanks, Dak, I appreciate the info.  These receptions are marginal at best here, but they force us into thinking and scheming new methods to hear you, getting more performance out of our gear, and looking harder at propagation paths and conditions from your area.  We really appreciate these opportunities to hear Radio Totse, and I for one am really looking forward to the fall when the storms start quieting down.

I've played around quite a bit with the filtering of my SDR recordings (I use a custom app I wrote myself to process the I/Q files), and with careful section of the filtering edges I can improve the SSTV images quite a bit (I've done this before for other pirate SSTV images. I usually will set the filtering to just pass the SSTV audio, sync and video. And if conditions are very poor, just the video, then I will manually start decoding and adjust the image phase).

I agree that once we enter local fall, condition should improve, with fewer storms and less daylight.Until it starts to become summer in NZ, anyway :-)
