KHAQQ and NRUI 6925 USB 0100 UTC 4Jul15
« on: July 04, 2015, 0102 UTC »
YL voice comms.

Sounds like the Amelia Earhart recreation?
Poss the UNID CW rptd in "Other" was a part of this?

0104 hearing calls NRUI (USCG Itasca)  and KHAQQ (Earhart)  Wx bc by OM

0105 Amelia comms
0108 Amelia calling Itasca with position
0111 Amelia thinks she is abt 200 miles out
0112 Itasca can't take a bearing; switch to 500 Kcs
0113 Amelia thinks she is abt 100 miles out
0114 Itasca still can't take a bearing; switch to 500 Kcs
0121 KHAQQ calling Itasca; she definitely has panic in her voice
0122 Itasca to Earheart; ARE YOU THERE?  Nothing heard...
0125 dead silence

Thanks again for the great show!

Hearing an aviation weather report at 0104 UTC with OM giving "NRUI" call, silence, then YL and finally CW at 0106 UTC
0112 UTC OM giving NRUI call at end of talk....YL then OM again
0115 UTC CW again ending at 0116 UTC
0118 UTC YL again followed by CW
0119 UTC YL then CW
(Signal is quite good here but will have to listen back on the recording)
0121 UTC YL then OM saying "KHAQQ are you there?"
0122 UTC CW

7/4/15, 0100z, 6925 USB
Same heard here since 0100z, does sound like the annual Amelia Earhart "Hello, Itasca" program.  Fair signal to indoor portable on whip through the usual suburban RFI.
0112z: Definitely the annual Amelia Earhart "Hello, Itasca" program.  Voice transmissions with Itasca requesting KHAQQ to change frequencies ("It is not possible to take a bearing on this frequency"), Earhart giving estimates of her distance.  Intermittent CW messages.
0118z: "We are flying at 1,000 feet.  KHAQQ out."
0119z: Earhart to Itasca, "We received your signal, please take bearing on us..."
0122z: Itasca requests any stations listening to monitor 6210, 3105 and 500 kc emergency frequency.

I think I've heard this every summer since 2007 or 2008, usually with a pretty good signal even to an indoor portable here in N. Central Texas.  Some years the program has also been accompanied by jazzy period music.

0128z: Some sort of data burst, not sure if related to Earhart program.
